B.K.S Iyengar, who devised Iyengar yoga, suggested that yoga blocks should ideally be about 9″ x 4.5″ x 3″ (23cm x 12cm x 7cm) and he recommended wooden yoga blocks for the best support.
The majority of foam yoga blocks are either 9″ x 6″ x 3″ or 9″ x 6″ x 4″. But they do vary from one supplier to another. The important point to think about is how big your hands are and whether you will be gripping the yoga block or just resting on it. If you have small hands you may be better off with a pair of 3″ yoga blocks.
Weight is just as important as size. Yoga blocks vary enormously here. The weight usually gives you an idea of the density and the firmness of a yoga block but even some very light foam yoga blocks are perfectly solid enough.

To sum up most yoga blocks are somewhere between 9″ x 6″ x 3″ and 9″ x 6″ x 4″ the best size for you will be what you can comfortably grip. Foam yoga blocks are the lightest. Cork Yoga blocks are in the middle and Wood and Bamboo Yoga blocks are the heaviest.
